CEBP gamma is a transcription factor that binds to the enhancer element PRE-I (positive regulatory element-I) of the IL-4 gene. It might change the DNA-binding specificity of other transcription factors and recruit them to unusual DNA sites. Function: Transcription factor that binds to the promoter and the enhancer of the immunoglobulin heavy chain. Binds to GPE1, a cis-acting element in the G-CSF gene promoter. Subunit: Binds DNA as a dimer and can form stable heterodimers with C/EBP alpha and beta. Interacts with ZNF638; this interaction increases transcriptional activation. Subcellular Location: Nucleus. Tissue Specificity: Ubiquitous. Similarity: Belongs to the bZIP family. C/EBP subfamily. Contains 1 bZIP (basic-leucine zipper) domain.
